Over 1 Million Video iPods Sold in 20 Days

I am at a loss to explain it. In the first 20 days since the release of the Video iPod, Apple has sold over one million units. By far the biggest news in my opinion has been that the iTunes music store is now selling video. (specifically TV shows as I have mentioned before) I didn’t think the Video iPod with a 2-inch screen was that big of a deal. It’s cool, no doubt, but cool enough to sell 1 million iPods in 20 days? I tried to explain this away by saying that people just wanted the latest-greatest iPod regardless of video, but that’s a huge number to be putting down to just hype. Considering that the video iPod comes on the heels of the nano which would serve to soak up some of those latent hype dollars, I have no other choice but to admit that I’m just dead wrong on this one. Is playing video on a 2-inch screen really that significant? Isn’t it just a fad that will eventually evaporate? Or am I just a complete raving moron? Should I start a video podcast?!

I agree, yes to the video podcast. Also, I think that people feel like this is breaking history and want to be part of it. That might be the hype that pushes the sales. All the Antiques Roadshow people are probably grabbing them and keeping them sealed in boxes :-) It's a piece of technological history that's relatively affordable.

Yeah, that's a great point. I didn't think about that. I have a first generation iPod purchased when the whole thing started back in 2001. Its in excellent condition so you got me thinking about retireing it to a nice safe box somewhere...

There is The New Renaissance beginning in the world. Ethics and Art have found a medium to articulate themselves with authority. S/He who entertains the best wins. No agents directing the vision, no businessman contributing his safe opinions to the dire of progress. The internet is the medium of change. Video is the new market. Start a video podcast! Do It!

But please don't call it a 'podcast': It's such an awful word

Well I traded my iPod nano for a 60Gb video iPod. Well worth it in my opinion. Only snag I've hit is for some reason none of the videos or music I have purchased from the iTunes will transfer to my iPod.
